mih-larry_tillyer-02Larry was born in Victoria, BC but grew up in Vancouver. Larry started his journey as a self taught artist in 1987. A landscape, figure, plein air and genre painter in the impressionist style, his paintings are powerful studies that feature brilliant, pure colour, strong linear strokes, and expert use of light. Larry started painting after a successful career in music, playing with the likes of Bill Haley & the Comets, Ivory Joe Hunter, Earl Bostic, Tommy Chong of Cheech & Chong and Gene Vincent. After music, painting took over and has been his prime interest. He is a Signature Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and an active member of the Richmond Artist’s Guild. Larry’s paintings have won many awards and can be found in collections throughout Canada and the U.S.A.

Artist’s Statement

I paint mainly in acrylics and I am fond of Impressionism. I’m especially fascinated with how artists handle colour and understand light and translate it into art. I regularly enjoy doing plein air painting and weekly life drawing.
